Heroes on the Water First Kayak Event of 2019: Heroes on the Water will be hosting its first fishing event this Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 9 a.m. on Lake Fayetteville. As a reminder, a special event just for women veterans will be held May 4. American Legion District 1 Meeting: The next American Legion District Meeting will be held at Siloam Spring Post 29 on March 9, 2019, beginning at 10 a.m. A $5 breakfast will be served by the SAL Squadron 29 starting at 8 a.m. The meeting is open to all Legion members.


St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at American Legion Post 27: American Legion Post 27 in Fayetteville will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on Saturday, March 16 from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by music and dancing. Dinner will be a choice of either corned beef and cabbage or shepherd’s pie and cost is $6.50


American Legion Post 100 Celebration of Legion’s 100th Anniversary: American Legion Post 100 in Rogers will be holding an open house on Sunday, March 17, 2019, from 2 to 5 p.m. to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion.


REBOOT Combat Recovery Course Informational Seminar: REBOOT Combat Recovery, a 12-week faith-based combat trauma healing course, is offering a free seminar on what the Combat Recovery Course is and how to start one with your local group. The seminar will be held at the Washington County Veterans Service Office from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Lunch will be provided. Vietnam Veterans Recognition Ceremony: A ceremony to recognize veterans for service during the Vietnam War will be held Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the American Legion Post 137 in Huntsville, Arkansas. For more information contact your local county veterans service officer.


Tour of Arkansas State Veterans Home in Fayetteville: The Coalition has confirmed its tour of the Arkansas State Veterans Home at Fayetteville starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Anyone desiring to participate in the noon meal with the residents should provide their name for a head count no later than Tuesday, April 2, 2019, to Jannie D Layne at 479-530-7728 or Jannielayne1206@gmail.com so she can provide a total head count to Buster McCall, Administrator.


VA Town Hall Meeting at American Legion Post 27: The VA Medical Center is holding a town hall meeting on changes to the VA from 8 to 9 p.m. on April 8, 2019, at the American Legion Post 27 in Fayetteville. The next day, legislators and VA representatives will tour the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks.


Fayetteville National Cemetery to Honor Vietnam Veterans: On Friday, March 29, 2019, at 9 a.m. the Fayetteville National Cemetery will hold a ceremony to honor Vietnam veterans.


Ozark Mission Project Accepting Applications: Ozark Mission Project will be hosting another camp in Rogers this summer. The group of high school teenagers and adults from all over the state will gather June 10-13, 2019, to do mission work within the community for neighbors in need (such as the elderly, disabled, low-income, foster families, veterans, non-profits, etc.). Applications for help will be accepted through May 3, 2019, and for handyman projects such as building wheelchair ramps, yard work, painting, minor repairs, etc. Information on how to request project help will be sent to Coalition members. Fayetteville National Cemetery Honor and Respect Event: Bo’s Blessing will be sponsoring cleaning of all headstones at the Fayetteville National Cemetery on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Bo’s Blessing will be providing all cleaning materials. All ages are welcome. 2nd Annual Veteran’s Freedom Festival: The 2nd annual Veteran’s Freedom Festival will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the covered downtown Shiloh Square in Springdale. There will be music, speakers and a number of information venues offered to veterans and the communities of NW Arkansas. The Springdale VFW Auxiliary Post 2952 will be hosting the event. VA and Community Fall Round Up: Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks is planning a large community event for the second or fourth Saturday in October. More details to follow.


Fayetteville Veterans Day Parade: Steve Gray is trying to determine if there is any interest in restarting the annual Veterans Day parade in Fayetteville. Please contact him at 479-287-3778 or sharonsteve2@yahoo.com.


Wednesday Lunch and Country and Western Bands at American Legion Post 27: Each Wednesday, American Legion Post 27 in Fayetteville holds a fund-raising lunch for $5. On the first Wednesday of the month the patients at the Fayetteville Veterans Home are invited to eat for free. The second and third Saturdays offer dancing beginning at 7 p.m. with live bands. Springdale Veterans Memorial Meeting: The Springdale Veterans Memorial group holds its monthly meeting the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at Central Fire Station on Holcomb street. American Legion Breakfasts: On the first Saturday of each month, American Legion Post 100 in Rogers and the American Legion Post 139 in Springdale serve breakfast at their posts. The events are open to the public.


Bo’s Blessings: The monthly meeting for Bo’s Blessings is held the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Springdale Christian Church. For more information please contact Jannie Layne at 479-530-7728 or Jannielayne1206@gmail.com.


Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation: The Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation meets the second Saturday of each month beginning at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Post 27 in Fayetteville. Fayetteville National Cemetery Advisory Council: The monthly meeting of the Fayetteville National Cemetery Advisory Council is held the third Wednesday of the month starting at 10 a.m. at the Washington County Veterans Service Office. Northwest Arkansas Coalition Membership Renewal: Coalition membership dues for 2019 are currently being collected. As a reminder, according to the Bylaws, “Dues have been established for Member Veteran Organizations of $100 when joining and $25 per year afterwards. Associate members pay no joining fee or annual dues.” Those who have not yet paid dues for 2019 can pay them in person at the February meeting or mail them to the Coalition’s Post Office Box 1442, Rogers, AR 72757.
